What GTA 6 gameplay details came out of the previews?

The GTA 6 gameplay details circulating since late August come from hands-off previews, creator videos and outlet write-ups, not from an official Rockstar feature list. They describe a weapon carry limit, a reworked police system, freer default aiming, a fuel mechanic, no full first-person mode at launch and a long list of side activities.

Treat every item below as reported, not confirmed. We have not found these in any Rockstar Newswire feature list. Some of them reached the public as quotes from Rob Nelson, Rockstar North's co-studio head, relayed by creators in their own videos. That is closer to the source than a rumor. It is still secondhand, and the shipped game can differ from a preview build. GTA VI is set for November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Who reported GTA 6 gameplay details from the previews?

In July, a small group of creators and press were flown to Rockstar North in Edinburgh to watch the game being played. GamingBible reported on August 26, 2026 that the creators could not get their hands on the game at all. Wider coverage began on August 27, 2026, the day the Extended Look video aired, and kept arriving into September.

The names that recur across the coverage are few. YouTuber TGG's breakdown is the one VICE, Dexerto and GamingBolt drew on most. Brazilian YouTuber Davy Jones interviewed Rob Nelson. French outlet TroisCouleurs, per VICE, watched two store robberies play out differently. Outlets including Kotaku, VICE, Dexerto and GamingBolt then reported what the visitors said. We cite the outlet and date for each point so you can see where it came from. If you want the footage itself rather than the previews, our rundown of the GTA 6 Extended Look covers that video.

Does GTA 6 limit how many weapons you can carry?

According to the previews, yes. GamingBolt reported on September 7, 2026 that Rob Nelson told TGG you can always carry two concealed handguns and up to two long guns, one in the off hand and one on the back.

Nelson also described how people react, as GamingBolt quoted him. A long gun on your back should not alarm anyone. One held in your hand makes nearby people move away. He contrasted this with GTA V, where a player could pull a shotgun out of nowhere without a reaction.

Earlier, on June 25, 2026, Dexerto pointed to the Ultimate Edition description, which mentions a garage weapons locker to customize a loadout. Dexerto called that an inference about carry limits, not a confirmation. The exact rules for storing extra weapons were not something we could trace to an established outlet with a direct quote, so we leave them out.

How do police and the wanted level work in the GTA 6 previews?

VICE published a long summary of the previews on September 5, 2026, crediting the police details to TGG. In that account, police no longer show on the minimap. A Heat system tracks what the police know about you, such as CCTV footage, a description of your outfit, your weapon or your getaway car. Per VICE, solid white stars mean officers can see you, flashing stars mean you broke line of sight, hollow stars mean a crime was reported without a description of you, and red stars mean you escaped but are still inside the search area. VICE also relayed that police may set a perimeter around a store that was just robbed.

Kotaku's August 27 roundup said the six-star wanted level is back and is apparently very hard to escape. Kotaku also reported that police react differently depending on whether you commit crimes alone or as a pair. Our page on the GTA 6 wanted level cheat question explains why no code to clear those stars has been verified.

Does GTA 6 have auto-aim or a first-person mode?

Per VICE's September 5 summary of TGG's preview, traditional auto-aim is no longer on by default. VICE described a freer aiming system with a small amount of stickiness instead, and said those settings can be adjusted. It did not list the assist options, and we have not found a direct Rockstar statement about them.

First-person is clearer. VICE reported on August 28, 2026 that Rob Nelson told Davy Jones the game will not have a full first-person mode at launch. Kotaku carried the same point a day earlier. Per VICE, a first-person view is still available when aiming certain weapons. VICE also noted that GTA V added its own first-person mode about a year after launch, with the PS4 and Xbox One release. Rockstar has not said whether GTA VI will follow that path.

Is there a fuel system in GTA 6?

The previews say there is. Dexerto reported on September 6, 2026, citing TGG's visit, that cars use fuel and that TGG estimated a refill at a gas station takes about ten seconds. Gas stations can also repair vehicles, and electric cars recharge there. Dexerto quoted Nelson's reaction to the timing: "pretty fast for a fill-up."

TGG's view, as Dexerto relayed it, is that fuel matters most when you grab a stolen car with a nearly empty tank during a police chase. VICE's September 5 summary added that fuel is "not intended to constantly interrupt gameplay." Nobody we could source has said how often you will need to refuel or whether the mechanic can be switched off.

What side activities are in GTA 6?

This is where the previews and the official footage overlap. Engadget's August 28 list of things spotted in the Extended Look named basketball, dirt bike racing, stock car racing, scuba diving, kayaking, target practice, bench press workouts, wrestling and a fishing minigame. Engadget said a TV ad seen in the footage hinted at hunting. It did not say hunting was playable.

VICE's September 5 preview summary added a gym membership with treadmills and weights, pool, mini golf and a shooting range. It said fishing is described as being as detailed as in Red Dead Redemption 2. VICE did not say who made that comparison, and Rockstar has not made it in anything we found.

What the previews say about cheats

None of the preview coverage we read mentions cheat codes. Rockstar has published nothing about cheats in GTA VI, and VI Cheats has verified no GTA VI code. Our GTA 6 cheats status page tracks that.

We cover frame rate and campaign length separately in our pages on whether GTA 6 runs at 30fps or 60fps and on how long the GTA 6 story is.

VI Cheats is independent and not affiliated with Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive.

Are the GTA 6 preview details confirmed by Rockstar?

No. Rockstar has not posted them as an official feature list. Some come from Rob Nelson's comments to creators, as reported by outlets, and a preview build can change before launch.

Did anyone play GTA 6 in the previews?

Not according to the reports. GamingBible said the creators who visited Rockstar North could not get their hands on the game. They watched it being played and asked questions.

Does GTA 6 have a first-person mode at launch?

Not a full one, according to Rob Nelson's interview with Davy Jones as reported by VICE on August 28, 2026. First-person aiming with certain weapons was described as available.

How long does it take to refuel in GTA 6?

About ten seconds, by TGG's estimate from his preview as reported by Dexerto on September 6, 2026. Rockstar has not published a figure.
