What is the GTA 6 Extended Look?

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is a Rockstar Games special of about 26 minutes that premiered on Netflix on Thursday, August 27, 2026. It shows in-game footage captured on PlayStation 5, and it contains no cheat codes or cheat information of any kind.

Netflix's own pre-announcement put the runtime at about 26 minutes. Variety and What's on Netflix call it a 27-minute special. We have not timed it ourselves.

UPI reported that the footage opens with the two leads, Jason and Lucia, in a shootout with police, and includes scenes of Vice City. It is a video, not a playable demo.

When did the GTA 6 Extended Look premiere on Netflix?

The special went live on Netflix at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET on August 27, 2026. Netflix held it exclusively for about six hours. Game Informer reported the plan in advance: Netflix first, then Rockstar's YouTube channel and the GTA VI website at 9 PM ET the same day. After that window closed, anyone could watch the special free.

Where can I watch the GTA VI Extended Look now?

Rockstar released it on its official YouTube channel and on the GTA VI website on the evening of August 27. It also premiered on Netflix, where it charted for the week, as covered below.

There is no other official source. A site that asks you to install something, sign in, or pay before you can "watch" or "play" it is not Rockstar.

How many people watched it on Netflix?

Variety reported 31.1 million views between the premiere on Thursday, August 27 at 3 PM ET and Sunday, August 30, the end of Netflix's weekly Top 10 window. That was four days of counting, not a full week.

The special was No. 1 on Netflix's English-language film list and reached No. 1 in 87 of the 93 countries Netflix tracks, according to the same report. The next film on that list, The Whisper Man, drew 23.2 million views.

Engadget covered the same number and added a YouTube count of about 17.7 million views at the time of its article. The two figures are not measured the same way. Engadget explains that Netflix counts one complete household viewing as a single view, while YouTube counts a play as soon as it starts.

Did GTA 6 pre-orders go up after the Netflix special?

Yes, according to estimates from the analytics firm Sensor Tower. Two percentages went around, 436% and 572%. They are not rival claims. They measure different things.

  • 436% is the rise in estimated pre-orders on August 27 compared with the day before.
  • 572% is the rise across two days, August 27 and 28, compared with the average day in the previous 30 days.

A one-day jump against a single prior day and a two-day jump against a 30-day average will not produce the same number, and both can be accurate.

The same tracker put the platform split for August 27 at PS5 pre-orders up 606% and Xbox Series X|S up 127%. GTA BOOM, reporting the Sensor Tower data, stressed that these are panel-based estimates and that none of them are official numbers. Take-Two has not published pre-order unit counts, according to GTA BOOM. Treat every figure in this section as a third-party estimate.

For the pre-order basics, the official prices were 79.99 USD for the Standard Edition and 99.99 USD for the Ultimate Edition when pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026. Our pre-order and pre-load dates page tracks the rest.

Did the Extended Look show any GTA 6 cheats?

No. We found no cheat code, phone number, button sequence or cheat menu in any report on the special, and Rockstar has not published anything about cheats in GTA VI. VI Cheats has verified no GTA VI code.

Codes from earlier games, such as the GTA V phone numbers, belong to those games. Nothing shown on August 27 says any of them will work in GTA VI. Our GTA 6 cheats page lists what is verified, and right now that is nothing for GTA VI itself.

Were there fake GTA 6 Extended Look or demo sites?

Yes. Malwarebytes reported on August 24, 2026, three days before the premiere, that a set of sites was copying Rockstar's Extended Look announcement and adding "Play Now" and download buttons for a fake GTA 6 demo. The file behind those buttons was a Windows program that Malwarebytes identified as the Vidar information stealer. It targets saved passwords, browser cookies and logged-in sessions.

There is no official GTA 6 demo. The Extended Look was only ever a video. GTA VI is announced for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and Rockstar has never announced a PC version, so a Windows installer claiming to be the game or a demo cannot be genuine. For a related trap, see our report on a fake pre-order site.

The release date itself has not moved. Rockstar's Newswire lists November 19, 2026, and pre-load opens on November 12.

How long is the GTA 6 Extended Look?

About 26 minutes, per Netflix's pre-announcement. Variety and What's on Netflix call it a 27-minute special.

Is the Extended Look still a Netflix exclusive?

No. Netflix had it alone for about six hours on August 27, 2026. Rockstar then released it free on YouTube and the GTA VI website.

Are the 436% and 572% pre-order figures official?

No. Both are Sensor Tower estimates, and they cover different time windows against different baselines. Take-Two has not released pre-order counts, per GTA BOOM.

Is there a playable GTA 6 demo?

No. Rockstar has not announced one. Sites offering a GTA 6 demo download were flagged by Malwarebytes as delivering malware.
