Rockstar Games has published no frame rate for Grand Theft Auto VI. The GTA 6 30fps or 60fps question has no official answer, because every page Rockstar and its platform partners control is silent on it, and the 30fps figure repeated across search results is a second-hand relay of one developer remark rather than a specification.

There is a difference between what Rockstar has published, what someone relayed out of a private room, and what leaked from a retailer listing. This article keeps them apart, and dates each one.

What has Rockstar published about GTA 6 frame rate?

Nothing at all.

The official game page at rockstargames.com/VI, read on September 18, 2026, carries four things: "Coming November 19, 2026", a platform line naming PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, a "Plays Best On PlayStation 5" badge, and a pre-order button. It prints no frames per second, no resolution and no graphics mode.

PlayStation's own product page for the game, read the same day, adds a "PS5 Pro Enhanced" badge and a line saying the game is released for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro on November 19, 2026. Its feature list covers Tempest 3D audio, fast SSD loading, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. There is no frame rate on it, and no resolution.

The Xbox store listing, also read September 18, 2026, shows an "Optimized for" badge for Series X and S, a "Single player" tag and a release date of November 19, 2026. No frame-rate figure there either.

Three storefronts, and not a performance number on any of them. Everything after this point is somebody other than Rockstar talking.

Where the 30fps number actually came from

Ahead of the Extended Look presentation on August 27, 2026, Rockstar brought a small group of creators to Rockstar North in Edinburgh. One of them, the Brazilian YouTuber Davy Jones, watched more than two hours of the game being played by Rockstar staff. He never held the controller.

He asked about frame rate and performance modes. Rob Nelson, head of development and co-studio head at Rockstar North, answered him in the room, and the answer was that the consoles were running the game at 30 frames per second during this period of development.

Flow Games, the Portuguese-language outlet Jones works with, published its write-up of the visit on August 27, 2026. That first piece covers the two hours of hands-off play and carries no frame rate at all; the Nelson exchange came in the outlet's wider reporting from the trip. Kotaku picked that up the same day, working from a machine translation, and rendered Nelson as saying he does not currently have details on resolution and other technical qualities, such as ray tracing, "but the performance, for now, is 30 FPS." On a 60fps mode, the same piece has him saying "it is still necessary to consult the technical team to determine if there will be a 60 FPS option at launch (or in the future)."

Count the steps between that room and your search results. A developer answers a question in front of a few visitors. One visitor recounts it afterwards. It is written up in Portuguese, machine-translated by an English-language outlet, then aggregated onward by everyone else. Each step is a place a qualifier can drop, and one did. TechRadar kept "for now" in its own headline. Plenty of pages did not, and within a week "30fps at launch" was circulating with nothing attached to date it.

None of that makes the relay false. It makes it a relay. It is one developer's status report on a build not quite three months before release, not a shipping specification, and Rockstar did not publish it.

Does the PS5 Pro Enhanced badge mean 60fps?

It does not. The badge says the game has some improvement on PS5 Pro hardware. It does not say which improvement, and the store page does not say either.

Notebookcheck, covering the same preview on August 28, 2026, noted that Nelson did not address PS5 Pro enhancements at all. That is where the trail ends, and no source, official or relayed, supports the popular claim that a PS5 Pro will deliver 60fps in this game.

What about the leaked Performance and Quality modes?

The leak is real. The number attached to it in the headlines is not in the leak.

MediaMarkt Poland's pre-order description stated that next-generation consoles "offer two graphics modes to choose from (Performance and Quality)". Notebookcheck reported it on June 24, 2026 and flagged that it looked like placeholder copy, likely to be replaced when pre-orders opened the next day. The listing printed no frame rate. The 30 and the 60 in the resulting headlines were supplied by the outlets, not by the retailer.

Separately, the Polish podcast Rock i Borys, which Vice renders as Rock and Borys, claimed 30fps and 60fps modes on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Vice covered that on June 29, 2026 and said plainly that it came from a single source. A retailer placeholder and a single-source podcast claim are not nothing. They are not a frame rate either.

That claim has since come back in a different shape. Vice's June write-up already carried the podcast's own caveat, that the source was not sure a 60fps mode would make launch and that it might arrive later in an update instead. Notebookcheck returned to the story on September 1, 2026, reporting that the Moore's Law Is Dead podcast had revived the same Polish claim as a performance patch that could land on or after release. That is a relay of a relay of a single source, and it changes nothing about what Rockstar has published. It is worth knowing anyway, because it is the version of the rumour now in circulation, and because Rockstar has said nothing about it either.

Why do so many pages say "confirmed"?

Because "Rockstar confirms" ranks and "a YouTuber relayed a remark" does not. Pages currently ranking for this query carry "Locked at 30 FPS" and "Rockstar Confirms" in their titles, sometimes both in the same headline. Both halves are wrong. The quote carried a time limit, so nothing is locked. Rockstar published nothing, so nothing was confirmed.

We label a relayed claim the same way here that we label a cheat code. The four status labels we use exist so that a relayed claim never gets printed as a confirmed one, and the same rule produced our note that Rockstar has published nothing about GTA VI cheats.

What would settle it

One of three things. A Rockstar Newswire post stating a target. A spec line appearing on rockstargames.com/VI. Or a frame-rate figure turning up on the PlayStation or Xbox storefront listing. Until one of those happens the launch frame rate is unknown, and this site will not assert one. That holds for the post-launch patch as well, which so far exists only in podcast reporting.

The release date is firm, and it is documented in our breakdown of what Rockstar currently lists. The frame rate is not firm. Knowing one of those things tells you nothing about the other.

Will GTA 6 run at 60fps on PS5 Pro?

Unknown. The PlayStation store page carries a "PS5 Pro Enhanced" badge, read September 18, 2026, but the badge does not name the enhancement and no fps figure appears on the page. Rob Nelson was not reported to have addressed Pro hardware during the August 2026 preview. Anyone stating a Pro frame rate is guessing.

Is GTA 6 locked at 30fps?

No source supports the word "locked". The relayed quote from Rob Nelson, published by Kotaku on August 27, 2026, put the consoles at 30 frames per second during that period of development, added "but the performance, for now, is 30 FPS", and sent the 60fps question back to the technical team for launch or later. That describes a build in August, not a shipping product in November.

Has Rockstar confirmed a performance mode for GTA 6?

No. As of September 18, 2026 there is no Rockstar Newswire post, no store spec line and no support article about graphics or performance modes in Grand Theft Auto VI. The Performance and Quality labels come from a MediaMarkt Poland retailer listing reported June 24, 2026, which Notebookcheck flagged as probable placeholder text.

Does frame rate affect cheat codes in GTA 6?

There is nothing to affect yet. Rockstar has published nothing about cheats in Grand Theft Auto VI: no code, no entry method, no statement that a cheat system exists. That is why our cheat code reference page carries GTA V material badged as unverified for GTA VI rather than a GTA VI list. Frame rate and cheats are both blanks, and any site filling in either one is inventing.

When will we know the final frame rate?

Possibly not before launch on November 19, 2026. The Extended Look on August 27, 2026 came and went without a figure, and neither storefront listing has added one since. Frame-time analysis of retail capture footage normally lands in the days after a game ships. That may be the first hard number anyone gets.
