GTA 5 Cheat List: How It Works and Why Sources Disagree

What Is the GTA 5 Cheat List?

The GTA 5 cheat list is the set of cheat codes Rockstar built into Grand Theft Auto V's single-player story mode. You enter one of two ways: a fast button combination on the controller, or a phone number dialled on the in-game cell phone. The effects last for the current session and nothing longer. Reload a save and they are gone.

That is the whole shape of it. These codes are part of GTA V as shipped. They are not files you add, not a menu someone else wrote, and not something that runs in GTA Online.

How Do You Enter a Cheat Code in GTA V?

Button entry is the older method and the one that works everywhere. You press the sequence quickly, in free roam, and the game confirms it. Phone entry came later. GTA BASE's PlayStation page describes the steps: bring up the phone with Up, open the contact list, open the dial pad, then dial the number. That same page notes phone entry exists on PS4 and PS5 but not on PS3, where button combinations are the only route.

The two methods are usually the same cheat wearing different clothes. Raise Wanted Level in GTA V is 1-999-3844-8483 on the phone, or R1, R1, Circle, R2, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right on a PlayStation controller. Lower Wanted Level in GTA V is 1-999-5299-3787, or R1, R1, Circle, R2, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left. Look at those two again. The first four presses are identical. Only the six-press direction run is mirrored.

What Do the Cheats in GTA V Actually Do?

They fall into a few groups, and the groups are more useful than the raw list.

Player state is the first. Invincibility in GTA V is 1-999-724-654-5537, or Right, X, Right, Left, Right, R1, Right, Left, X, Triangle. GTA BOOM's page describes it as temporary god mode lasting about five minutes, after which you enter it again or go without. Max Health and Armor in GTA V is 1-999-887-853, or Circle, L1, Triangle, R2, X, Square, Circle, Right, Square, L1, L1, L1. That one is instant and does not stay on.

Loadout is the second group. Weapons and Ammo in GTA V is 1-999-866-587, which some pages print as 1-999-8665-87 because the letters group differently. The PlayStation combination is Triangle, R2, Left, L1, X, Right, Triangle, Down, Square, L1, L1, L1.

The rest of the list is world and vehicle stuff: weather, moon gravity, slippery cars, slow motion, explosive rounds, and a long run of spawn codes for bikes, planes, a helicopter and a submarine. Those are the entries that pad out any count, and they are also the reason no two counts match.

Why Does the GTA 5 Cheat List Have a Different Total on Every Site?

Because nobody counts it the same way. GTA BASE states a figure outright on its PlayStation page: there is a total of 34 cheats in GTA 5. GTA BOOM's page publishes no total at all. Checked on 21 September 2026, that page carries 36 distinct cheat phone numbers, each one printed twice, once in digits and once in letters.

Four things drive the spread. Whether a phone entry and a button entry for the same effect are counted as one cheat or two. Whether Director Mode and the Black Cell Phone effect belong on a cheat list in the first place. Whether the page is written for a platform that has phone entry at all, since a PS3 list is shorter by definition. And whether the writer folded the enhanced-edition extras in with the original set.

So a number by itself tells you very little. If a site gives you a total and will not say which list it counted, that is a signal about the site.

Do GTA V Cheats Block Saving or Achievements?

Rockstar answers this one directly. Its support page, "Information about saving and achievements while using GTA V cheat codes", last updated 28 April 2024, says: "Saving is allowed when cheat codes are enabled but achievements are temporarily disabled."

The same page adds the details people get wrong. Entering a code a second time will usually, though not always, switch that cheat off. Some cheats are unavailable during certain stretches of play. Starting a mission with off-mission cheats running cancels those cheats. Reloading a save or rebooting the console resets everything and puts the game back as it was.

GTA BOOM puts the practical version of this more bluntly: any cheat disables achievements and trophies for the rest of the session, and a clean reload brings them back. GTA BASE frames the same behaviour as a temporary block rather than a permanent one. Those three descriptions agree. Rockstar's is the one to quote. We went through the trophy question in more detail in do cheats disable trophies in GTA 6.

What Does Any of This Tell You About GTA VI?

Nothing confirmed. That is not a dodge. It is the actual state of the record as of 21 September 2026.

Rockstar has published no cheat codes for Grand Theft Auto VI. No entry method. No statement about whether cheats will exist, and no statement about trophies or achievements in that game. The Rockstar Newswire post of 6 November 2025 sets the launch at 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. That post is about a date. It says nothing about cheats.

So treat every code on this page as what it is: documented GTA V behaviour, verified against published pages, useful as history and as a reference for how Rockstar has handled this before. Our running record of what has and has not been confirmed for the next game lives at GTA 6 cheats, and the question of carry-over specifically is handled in do GTA 5 cheats work in GTA 6.

This is GTA V's list. It is long, it is documented, and it has been stable for years. None of it is known to apply to GTA VI.

VI Cheats is independent. It is not affiliated with Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive.

Do GTA 5 cheats work in GTA 6?

There is nothing to test. Rockstar has not published a single cheat code, entry method or cheat-related statement for GTA VI, so no carry-over has been announced and none can be demonstrated. Anyone showing you a working list for the new game is showing you something they made up.

How many cheats are in GTA V?

It depends on the page. GTA BASE says 34. GTA BOOM prints no total and lists 36 distinct phone numbers. Both are defensible counts of slightly different things.

Can you save GTA V while cheats are active?

Yes. Rockstar's support page says saving is allowed with cheats enabled, and that achievements are temporarily disabled while they are on.

Do GTA V cheat codes work in GTA Online?

No. They are story mode only. Nothing on the GTA 5 cheat list applies to the online game, and attempting to force an advantage there is against the terms people agree to.

How long does GTA V invincibility last?

GTA BOOM describes it as roughly five minutes of god mode. When it lapses you enter the code again. It does not survive a reload.
