Do GTA 5 cheats work in GTA 6? Nobody knows yet, and nobody can. Grand Theft Auto VI does not release until November 19, 2026, the date listed on Rockstar's official game page when we checked it on September 16, 2026, and Rockstar Games has published nothing whatsoever about cheats in it.
That is the whole answer. What follows is why it cannot be better than that, and what to make of pages that claim more.
What the "GTA V reference - Unverified for GTA VI" badge actually means
Our GTA V cheat reference list puts that badge on all 20 entries. A badge is four words.
Every button sequence on that page is a Grand Theft Auto V code. It was documented for GTA V, entered by players in GTA V, and published by outlets covering GTA V. Our list follows PC Gamer's GTA V cheats guide, last updated July 1, 2026, and is labelled with that source.
That badge marks history, not a forecast. The list records what the previous game did and stops there. It stays on the site because it is the closest documented thing to the question people keep asking. The labelling system sits in how VI Cheats labels and verifies cheat references.
Why no GTA VI code can be confirmed before launch
The first reason is that Rockstar has said nothing. Checked September 16, 2026: rockstargames.com/VI has no cheats section. The Rockstar Support knowledge base for GTA VI holds four articles. They cover platforms and editions, pre-order details, pre-order purchase support and GTA+ redemption. None of them mention cheats. There is no Rockstar statement that GTA VI will have cheats, and none that it will not. The absence runs both ways.
The second reason is more basic. A cheat code is a fact about a build that exists. It is a string the shipped game recognises, and confirming one means either Rockstar publishing it or someone entering it in the finished game and reporting the result. Rockstar has published nothing, and nobody has published a tested result from a finished build.
The history backs this up. GTA Wiki's San Andreas cheats page notes that the game's most famous codes were never given out by Rockstar in any guide, and were not sitting readable inside the executable either. Players found them by throwing dictionary words at the game's hash check until effects fired. The string players have used for twenty years was found by the community, not published by Rockstar. None of that was available before the game shipped.
Every Rockstar game has changed how cheats are entered
This is the part the badge cannot fit. Four games, four systems.
GTA San Andreas, per GTA Wiki, took controller button commands or keyboard input entered during gameplay, and specifically would not accept them from the pause menu the way earlier games did. Its money cheat, HESOYAM on PC, gave armor, health and $250,000 in San Andreas.
GTA IV threw the sequences out. Cheats became phone numbers dialled on Niko Bellic's mobile: GTA Wiki lists 486-555-0100 as GTA IV's advanced weapons and ammo cheat, stored in the phone's cheat menu once entered.
GTA V kept both and added a third. Console players use button sequences, PC players can open a command console with the tilde key, and every cheat also has a phone number. PC Gamer lists 1-999-887-853 as GTA V's max health and armor cheat, dialled in-game on any platform.
Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar's most recent original single-player game, has no codes at all. PC Gamer's RDR2 guide, updated November 19, 2025, describes typed phrases discovered in the world itself, some of which will not unlock until you have bought the matching in-game newspaper, all toggled afterwards from a cheat menu in settings.
The consequences diverge too. Rockstar Support's article on GTA V cheats, last updated April 28, 2024, says that "Saving is allowed when cheat codes are enabled but achievements are temporarily disabled." PC Gamer reports that RDR2 turns off both. Same studio, different rules, two games released five years apart.
Only GTA V carried an earlier game's method forward, and even that game kept GTA IV's phone alongside button sequences of its own. Every other step in the line replaced what came before. That is the record going into November.
So is the GTA V list useless?
No. It tells you what the previous game's cheat system did, which is the only concrete thing anyone can hand you right now. What it records is scope, not just strings: GTA V's cheats were single-player only, temporary, and narrower than people remember. That is a fact about GTA V, not a forecast for GTA VI. GTA V shipped without a money cheat at all, covered separately in what can be verified about a GTA 6 money cheat.
Read it as history and it is useful. Read it as a preview and it will mislead you, because San Andreas to GTA IV to GTA V to RDR2 is three changes in a row.
The pages that answer with a forecast
Search this question and much of what comes back answers it with forecast rather than fact. The recurring lines are that cheats are "expected to return", that the phone system "will probably come back", and that here is the "likely" PS5 list. Some go further and print full tables of GTA VI codes for PS5, Xbox and PC, presented as confirmed. None of it is sourced to Rockstar, because Rockstar has published nothing.
A forecast is not an answer to a question about fact. It is a way of filling a page while the fact is unavailable.
Being wrong is only half of it. A fabricated code list is the mildest version of a wider run of GTA VI search bait. Malwarebytes documented fake GTA VI demo sites delivering an information stealer on August 24, 2026, and a fake leaked-copy site carrying a cryptocurrency wallet drainer on September 1, 2026. We set out the status of every claim on our reference page in what is verified about GTA VI cheat code status.
What would actually change the answer
One of two things. Rockstar publishes something: a support article, a Newswire post, a line on the game page. Or the game ships on November 19, 2026, people play it, and the answer becomes testable.
Until then the reference page stays badged. If Rockstar posts anything about GTA VI cheats before launch, it will be dated and sourced here.
Do GTA 5 cheats work in GTA 6?
No GTA V code has been entered in GTA VI by anyone, because the game is not out. Rockstar has not said whether GTA VI has cheats at all. Any site presenting a tested answer today is presenting an invention.
Will GTA 6 use phone numbers for cheats like GTA 5 did?
Unknown. GTA IV and GTA V both used an in-game phone for cheats, which is why the assumption is common, but Red Dead Redemption 2 dropped that system entirely in favour of typed phrases and a settings menu. Rockstar has announced no entry method for GTA VI.
Has Rockstar confirmed any GTA 6 cheat codes for PS5 or Xbox?
No. As of September 16, 2026, rockstargames.com/VI, the Rockstar Newswire and the Rockstar Support GTA VI knowledge base contain nothing about cheats. The confirmed details for those platforms cover the release date, editions and pre-orders, not gameplay codes.
Why do other sites already list full GTA 6 cheat codes?
Because the search demand exists and the facts do not, so the gap gets filled with extrapolation from GTA V. Several of those pages admit in small print that their lists are unconfirmed while the headline says otherwise. Treat every pre-launch GTA VI code list as fabricated.
