Does GTA 6 Have Gyms? What Has Been Reported
Yes. Every account published so far gives the same answer to "Does GTA 6 have gyms?": Grand Theft Auto VI has gyms that Jason and Lucia can use to build strength and stamina. Rockstar has not published a gym feature list of its own, though, so the details come from a developer interview, magazine reporting and creator previews.
Here is who said what, and where each line came from. VI Cheats read every source below on October 17, 2026. VI Cheats is independent and not affiliated with Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive.
The game is set for November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only.
What Rob Nelson told IGN about gyms
IGN published its full interview with Rob Nelson of Rockstar North on October 7, 2026. VI Cheats could not read IGN's page directly. Inven Global summarised it the same day.
Its summary is short. Rob Nelson of Rockstar North, speaking to IGN, said players can visit gyms to build strength, and that overeating will cause the character to put on weight. Inven Global did not add exercise names, prices or numbers.
This is the closest thing to an on-record statement from the studio. Rockstar has not repeated these points on an official feature page.
How the gym works, according to previews
Most of the detail comes from previewers who watched the game being played at Rockstar North. VICE wrote on September 5, 2026 that its gameplay round-up drew on previews by YouTuber TGG and the French outlet TroisCouleurs, from sessions held in July. Every item below is the previewers' account as VICE relayed it. None of it is a Rockstar statement.
- Players buy a gym membership at the front desk.
- Exercises include treadmill running, punching bags, squats, lat pulldowns, bench presses and deadlifts.
- Cardio improves stamina. Strength training increases health.
- Protein shakes, energy drinks and similar items give temporary boosts that help with extra repetitions.
- Gyms are optional, and the gains are described as modest improvements to health, stamina and Focus.
Insider Gaming, writing on September 7, 2026 from TGG's video, added more. It reported that Nelson, playing the demo, noticed the characters' stamina bars were low. It relayed Nelson, through TGG, as saying a session takes three exercises to finish the day's workout, that cardio improves stamina, and that Lucia and Jason can work out together. Lucia also bought a protein shake. Insider Gaming said there will be many gyms across the city.
Those lines reached the public through a creator's video, then through an outlet's write-up.
Can Jason and Lucia gain weight or lose muscle?
Three sources point the same way, but none is a Rockstar announcement.
Dazed ran a long feature on the game after access to the studio. In its own narration, Dazed wrote that food affects Jason and Lucia's weight, and that exercise visibly builds and tones their muscles. It also said long stretches without sleep show up in their appearance. No named staff member is quoted on the body system in that piece. Our Dazed magazine coverage covers the rest of that feature.
Kotaku, writing up the Dazed piece on August 26, 2026, headlined it as Rockstar confirming the return of the San Andreas weight system. Read closely, those body-change lines are Kotaku's paraphrase of Dazed. Kotaku quotes no developer on them.
The previews, per VICE, add that characters can gain weight from eating too much or lose muscle if they stop training. Nelson's line to IGN about overeating fits the same picture.
What nobody has reported is how fast any of it moves. There is no published figure for how many sessions it takes to see a change, or how quickly muscle fades.
Is the gym system the same as San Andreas?
Kotaku drew the comparison, so here is the labelled precedent. Kotaku noted that changing a protagonist's body this drastically had not been a GTA feature since San Andreas in 2004. It called the new system an expanded take on Red Dead Redemption 2, where bruises lingered and beards grew out.
Nothing in San Andreas or Red Dead Redemption 2 tells you how the VI gym will play. For the older game's cheats, see our San Andreas cheats history.
Where are the gyms in GTA 6?
No source VI Cheats read names a specific gym or address. Insider Gaming's "many gyms across the city" line is the only location detail, and it comes from TGG's video. Kotaku noted that the second official trailer shows Jason working out, but that shot does not identify a location.
Our previews round-up lists gyms among the other side activities reported so far. The safehouse guide covers what the characters can do at home.
Is there a cheat for max strength or stamina in GTA 6?
No. Rockstar has published nothing about cheats in GTA VI, and VI Cheats has verified no VI code of any kind. Any page selling a muscle, fat or stamina code for VI today is guessing. Codes from past games are not a guide to VI either.
The GTA 6 cheats page tracks what is confirmed, which right now is nothing. We do not list trainers or mod menus and will not.
Are gyms required in GTA 6?
According to the previews VICE summarised on September 5, 2026, gyms are optional. Rockstar has not said this itself.
Can you work out with both characters in GTA 6?
Insider Gaming reported, from TGG's video, that Lucia and Jason can work out together. VICE, writing on October 14, 2026 about a Bloomberg Businessweek interview, said Bloomberg described Lucia on a treadmill while Jason did squats.
Can you get fat in GTA 6?
Rob Nelson of Rockstar North, speaking to IGN, said overeating makes the character put on weight, per Inven Global. Dazed reported that food affects both characters' weight.
Does GTA 6 have gyms on Rockstar's official pages?
Not as a feature list. VI Cheats has seen no gym mechanics published by Rockstar itself. Everything above comes from an interview, a magazine feature and previews, and the shipped game can differ from a preview build.
