Is GTA 6 on Game Pass at launch?
No. As of September 29, 2026, Grand Theft Auto VI has not been announced for Xbox Game Pass, and it has not been announced for the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog either. Is GTA 6 on Game Pass? Not on anything Microsoft, Sony or Rockstar has published: the game is sold, not rented, and pre-orders list it at 79.99 USD for the Standard Edition and 99.99 USD for the Ultimate Edition.
Rockstar's current date is November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. That date comes from the Rockstar Newswire post of November 6, 2025. Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026, and pre-load opens on November 12, 2026. The Newswire post that set the date does not mention Game Pass or PS Plus.

What we checked, and when
We searched for a Game Pass or PS Plus announcement on September 29, 2026. We looked for posts on Xbox Wire, which is where Microsoft announces Game Pass additions, and for coverage from established outlets. We found no Game Pass announcement for GTA VI. We found no PS Plus catalog announcement for it either.
The official PlayStation product page, checked the same day, offers the game as a pre-order at 79.99 USD and 99.99 USD. It does not mention PlayStation Plus or the Game Catalog. The Rockstar Newswire release-date post says nothing about Game Pass or PS Plus either.
One detail can confuse people. The PlayStation page lists a one-month GTA+ subscription with a pre-order, marked as auto-renewing. GTA+ is a separate subscription from PlayStation Plus and Game Pass. It is a bonus attached to buying the game, not a way to play it without buying it.
That is a statement about what exists today. It is not a forecast. A publisher can add a game to a catalog at any time, and nobody outside Take-Two and the platform holders knows their plans. This page reflects what was published as of September 29, 2026.
Why Take-Two has said day-one subscriptions do not make sense
The clearest public statement on this comes from Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, which owns Rockstar Games. In a video interview with GamesIndustry.biz, reported by 80.lv on June 3, 2022, he said the company supports subscription services in general. What he doubted was "making frontline console products available day and date with subscription."
He gave the reason in economic terms: "we can't afford to turn our business upside down in a way that doesn't make sense economically."
He also left the door open. In the same interview he said "when it makes sense we'll support subscription services." He added that older games whose price has come down can make sense on a subscription.
Two things matter about that quote. It was said in 2022, years before GTA VI had a release date. And it describes a general policy for frontline releases, not a specific decision about GTA VI. We have not found a named outlet or transcript in which Zelnick rules GTA VI in or out of Game Pass by name, so this article does not claim one.
Has GTA 5 ever been on Game Pass?
Yes, more than once, and never at launch. Its Game Pass appearances came years after the game's release, and each one ended.
- On July 5, 2023, Xbox Wire listed Grand Theft Auto V as available that day on Game Pass for console and cloud. PC Game Pass was not included.
- On April 3, 2025, Xbox Wire announced that GTA V was "making its way back to Game Pass" on April 15, 2025. That post also brought GTAV Enhanced to PC Game Pass.
- Insider Gaming reported on April 2, 2026 that the Enhanced and Legacy editions of GTA V would leave Game Pass on April 15, 2026.
Some coverage counts earlier stints before 2023. We have listed only the ones we could match to a dated source we read ourselves.
What about Red Dead Redemption 2 on Game Pass?
Red Dead Redemption 2 followed the same shape. Kotaku reported on August 19, 2020 that the game, which joined Game Pass in May 2020, would become unavailable on September 7, 2020. That was a stay of roughly four months, and it came well after the game's release.
These are records of how Rockstar's older games have been handled. They do not tell you if or when GTA VI will join any catalog.
Do you need Game Pass or PS Plus to play GTA 6?
Buying the game and owning a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S is what Rockstar has listed. Neither the Newswire post nor the PlayStation page lists a Game Pass or PS Plus membership as a requirement to buy or play. Rockstar has not announced an online mode for GTA VI, so we cannot say what, if anything, will need a membership later.
The price is the fixed part. Our Standard vs Ultimate edition breakdown covers what each edition includes, and our pre-order and pre-load dates page tracks the store dates.
Does a subscription change anything for cheats?
No. Rockstar has published nothing about cheats in GTA VI, and VI Cheats has verified no GTA VI code. That is true whether you buy the game or, one day, play it through a subscription. Our GTA 6 cheats hub lists only what has been confirmed, which today is nothing for GTA VI itself.
One past-game detail is still useful context. In GTA V, Rockstar Support says saving is allowed with cheats on, but achievements are temporarily disabled. That is GTA V's behaviour, not a promise about GTA VI.
Frequently asked questions
Will GTA 6 come to Game Pass later?
Nobody has announced that. GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both joined Game Pass years after release and both left again.
Is GTA 6 on PS Plus Extra or Premium?
No. As of September 29, 2026, Sony has not announced GTA VI for the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. The PlayStation product page lists it as a pre-order purchase.
How much does GTA 6 cost if it is not on Game Pass?
Pre-orders list the Standard Edition at 79.99 USD and the Ultimate Edition at 99.99 USD in the US, as shown on the PlayStation product page on September 29, 2026.
Did Take-Two say GTA 6 will never be on Game Pass?
No. The Zelnick remarks reported in June 2022 were about day-and-date subscription releases in general, and he said the company would support subscriptions when it makes sense.
