GTA 6 pre order and preload dates are both published, and both come from Rockstar and its parent company rather than from a leak or a countdown site. Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026. Pre-loading starts on November 12, 2026, one week before the November 19 release.

Three documents carry almost everything below: the Take-Two press release of June 24, 2026, the Rockstar Newswire pre-order post of the same day, and the Rockstar Support article "Grand Theft Auto VI Platforms, Editions, and Versions", last updated August 18, 2026 and checked on September 16, 2026. Where they are silent, this page says so rather than filling the gap. VI Cheats is an independent fan publication and is not affiliated with Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive; see our disclaimer.

When did pre-orders open?

They opened on June 25, 2026, at midnight local time. Rockstar announced it twice on the Newswire: a June 18, 2026 post titled "Grand Theft Auto VI Pre-Orders Begin on June 25", then a June 24 post carrying an update line reading "Grand Theft Auto VI is now available to pre-order globally."

Pre-orders have stayed open since, with no closing date published. The only deadline in Rockstar's material is November 20, 2026, and that one is about the bonus rather than the pre-order.

What are the editions and what do they cost?

There are two editions. Take-Two's June 24, 2026 press release puts the Standard Edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Both figures are US dollars. No regional pricing appears in the press release, and none is published elsewhere by Rockstar or Take-Two.

Rockstar Support describes the Standard Edition in one sentence: it "includes the game." The Ultimate Edition adds a long list of in-game content, including a '95 Grotti Cheetah, Hawk and Little Morgan Revolvers, Vice City Styles, a '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy and garage, and a set of shops and salons. Rockstar says those items are "threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter."

Standard buyers are not locked out of the extras. Rockstar Support says an Ultimate Edition Upgrade can be bought separately at any time through the PlayStation and Microsoft storefronts, once the Standard code has been redeemed.

What does pre-ordering get you?

Pre-ordering adds the Vintage Vice City Pack. Take-Two, verbatim: "All Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders and purchases before November 20, 2026, will include the Vintage Vice City Pack, a collection of items that flash back to when the neon burned brightest, alongside a free month of GTA+ for digital pre-orders."

Rockstar Support lists that pack as a '55 Vapid Stanier sedan and garage, outfits and hairstyles, and an exclusive weapon pattern.

Two things about the pack are widely misreported. It is not pre-order exclusive, since anything bought before November 20, 2026 includes it. And the free GTA+ month is tied to digital pre-orders in both companies' wording, not to the boxed copy.

When does preloading start?

Pre-loading opens on November 12, 2026. Take-Two, verbatim: "Players who pre-order digital versions of Grand Theft Auto VI will be able to begin pre-loading on November 12, 2026 to ensure they are able to play at launch on November 19, 2026."

Rockstar Support adds the time, which the press release leaves out. Pre-loading begins on November 12 at local midnight. That leaves seven days between the download opening and the game unlocking.

Is the physical edition a disc or a code?

The box holds a code. Rockstar Support is blunt about it: "The physical version of GTAVI will contain a download code that can be used for the digital download of the game. A disc will not be included in the box."

Take-Two says the physical version "will be available starting November 12, 2026 to support pre-loading", which explains the odd date. The box goes on sale a week early, so a code redeemed on the day it is picked up still gets the full preload window. Rockstar Support confirms codes can be used as soon as they are received.

That has two consequences. No boxed Ultimate Edition appears on the published list, so a physical buyer who wants the extras redeems the Standard code and buys the upgrade digitally. And the box is not the offline object it looks like. It is a printed code that needs an account, a storefront and a broadband connection.

What has Rockstar not published?

The published GTA 6 pre order and preload material stops short of what people are searching for. Here is what is missing.

The install size. Rockstar has published no storage requirement. The figures in circulation, mostly a 150GB to 200GB range, are estimates built from the size of earlier Rockstar releases rather than from anything Rockstar has published about this one.

The launch unlock time. Rockstar gave a time for pre-orders opening and one for pre-loading, both local midnight. A published unlock time for November 19 itself was not on the game page, the Newswire or any support article when those were checked on September 16, 2026.

A PC version. Rockstar has never announced one. That is an absence rather than a denial, and the PC dates in circulation are extrapolation from previous games.

Cheats. Rockstar has published nothing about cheats in Grand Theft Auto VI: no code, no entry method, no support article. That is why every entry on our GTA V cheat reference list for PS5 and Xbox is labelled as GTA V behaviour, unverified for GTA VI.

Why do the scam sites get these dates right?

Because accurate facts work as camouflage. Malwarebytes documented a page on September 1, 2026 that ran a live countdown to November 19, listed the platforms correctly and even noted correctly that no PC version has been announced. Sitting in that correct material were two buttons selling a "leaked copy" for $50 or one unit of a cryptocurrency, while a wallet drainer loaded in the background. The same researchers found fake demo sites in August 2026 serving a 1.1 MB information stealer dressed as an installer, which they noted is "nowhere near enough to contain a modern AAA game."

So check the storefront, not the facts wrapped around it. Per Take-Two and Rockstar Support, the game sells at the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store, and retailers and third-party storefronts. No amount of correct dates makes a crypto payment button safe.

Common questions

Can I still get the Vintage Vice City Pack if I buy at launch?

Yes, within the window. Take-Two's wording covers "pre-orders and purchases before November 20, 2026", so a launch-day purchase on November 19 falls inside it. Nothing published says what happens after that.

Do I have to pre-order to preload GTA 6?

For the digital version, that is how Take-Two words it: preloading from November 12, 2026 is for players who pre-ordered digital. A boxed copy reaches the same point differently, since the code inside can be redeemed as soon as the box is in hand, from November 12.

How big is the GTA 6 download?

Rockstar has not said. Every number in circulation is an estimate built from earlier Rockstar installs. Clearing space before November 12 is sensible, though nothing published says how much to clear.

Has the November 19, 2026 date moved?

Not once in 2026. The most recent change was announced on November 6, 2025, and the game page, the Newswire, the June 2026 press release and the August 2026 support article all still carry the same date. The sourcing is laid out in what Rockstar currently lists for the release date and tracked on our GTA 6 release date page.
