Is GTA 6 single player only at launch?

Yes. On the official store listings, GTA 6 is single player only when it launches on November 19, 2026. The PlayStation US product page says "1 player" and states that "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience." The Xbox store page lists "Single player" under its capabilities.

Rockstar Games has not announced an online mode for Grand Theft Auto VI. There is no name for one, no date and no platform list. Take-Two's chief executive has also described the launch as single-player, which is covered below. Both listings were checked on October 2, 2026.

What does "single-player experience" on the PS5 store page mean?

The line sits on the PlayStation product page, the same page that carries the release date and the prices: 79.99 USD for the Standard Edition and 99.99 USD for the Ultimate Edition. It describes what the game is on the day you buy it. It says nothing about what Rockstar may add later, and it should not be read as a promise either way.

For now it means one thing in practice. When the game unlocks, there is a story to play and no multiplayer mode listed to join. The page says the game is for PS5 and PS5 Pro.

The same page also says online features require an account for PlayStation and are subject to terms of service. That is standard store wording. It does not describe an online mode, and the listing names none. Whether you need a paid subscription is a separate question, answered in our PS Plus guide for GTA 6.

Does the Xbox store page say GTA 6 is single player?

It does. The Microsoft Store listing for Xbox Series X|S shows "Single player" and "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S" in its capabilities, with a release date of November 19, 2026. No online multiplayer capability appears on that listing.

So the two console stores agree. Rockstar has never announced a PC version of the game, so there is no third store page to compare.

What did Take-Two's CEO say about GTA 6 online?

Strauss Zelnick, the chief executive of Take-Two Interactive, was asked about the game at the company's annual stockholder meeting in September. Inven Global reported his answer on September 18: "We're launching GTA 6 as a single player experience on two major platforms, and therefore there's no recurrent consumer spending anticipated with regard to this launch."

GTA BOOM reported the spending part of the same remark. Recurrent consumer spending is Take-Two's term for money players spend after buying a game, such as virtual currency and add-ons. Saying none is anticipated from the launch fits a release with no online mode attached.

According to both reports, Zelnick also said GTA Online remains a strong business for the company and that Take-Two will keep supporting it. He did not give a date for any GTA VI online mode. If you want the spending side in more detail, our report on GTA 6 microtransactions covers what has been said about paid extras.

Is GTA Online shutting down when GTA 6 comes out?

Nothing announced says so. GTA Online is the multiplayer mode of GTA V. It launched on October 1, 2013, two weeks after GTA V itself, and has been updated for years since. Zelnick's comments, covered above, describe it as a service Take-Two will keep supporting.

That matters for anyone who plays both. Buying GTA VI does not replace GTA Online, and nothing on either store page says your GTA V progress moves across. No transfer of characters or money between the two has been announced.

When is GTA 6 Online coming out?

There is no date. Rockstar has not announced a GTA VI online mode, let alone a release window for one.

Plenty of dates are in circulation anyway. They come from commentators and people outside Rockstar and Take-Two, not from either company. History is a weak guide too. GTA Online followed GTA V by two weeks in 2013, but that was one launch with its own circumstances, and nothing official ties GTA VI to the same pattern.

Anything about online cheats, hacks or modded lobbies for a mode that does not exist yet is invented. What is known about GTA 6 online cheats explains why those pages cannot be real.

What GTA 6 single player only means for cheats

Single-player matters for cheats. In GTA V, cheat codes are entered in story mode. They are session-based, so reloading a save or rebooting resets them. Rockstar Support says saving is allowed while GTA V cheats are enabled, but achievements are temporarily disabled.

None of that is a prediction for GTA VI. Rockstar has published nothing about cheats in GTA VI, and VI Cheats has verified no GTA VI code. The GTA 6 cheats reference will list codes only once they can be checked in the released game.

VI Cheats is an independent site and is not affiliated with Rockstar Games, Take-Two Interactive, Sony or Microsoft.

Is GTA 6 single player only?

At launch, yes. The PlayStation page calls it "a single-player experience" and lists 1 player, and the Xbox page lists "Single player". Rockstar has announced no online mode.

Does GTA 6 have online multiplayer?

Not at launch, according to both console store listings. Rockstar has not announced a GTA VI online mode or a date for one.

Will GTA Online still be supported after GTA 6 releases?

According to reports from Take-Two's September stockholder meeting, Strauss Zelnick said GTA Online is still a strong business and the company will keep supporting it.

Why does the GTA 6 store page say single player?

Because that is how the game is described for launch on both console stores. The PlayStation listing says "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience" and the Xbox listing shows "Single player" under capabilities.
