Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders run through the Rockstar Store, the PlayStation Store and the Microsoft Store, and through authorised retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Walmart, which sell the code-in-box physical edition. A site that is none of those, and not a shop you already knew existed, is a GTA 6 fake pre order site. The check that catches one takes about ten seconds and happens in the address bar, not on the page.
Rockstar's own game page at rockstargames.com/VI listed "Coming November 19, 2026", the platforms PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and a Pre-Order Now button when we read it on September 18, 2026. That is the complete platform list. No PC, no Switch, nothing for PS4 or Xbox One.
Where GTA VI can actually be pre-ordered
The Rockstar Store lists two editions, Standard and Ultimate, and states that pre-load begins November 12, 2026. That store page was last read on September 16, 2026. It also says the physical box carries a download code rather than a disc. That code is what the retail chains are selling. The PlayStation and Microsoft storefronts take orders directly, on the console or on the web.
That is the shape of the legitimate market. Not a Discord invite. Not a regional distributor nobody has heard of. Not a reseller with the Ultimate Edition at half price.
For the dates themselves, we track what Rockstar currently lists for the release date and the pre-order and pre-load dates separately.
What the counterfeit storefronts actually copy
They copy everything a browser can render. Kaspersky described a page built to impersonate the PlayStation storefront, filled in with invented five-star reviews, an age rating and a pre-order price, and dressed in genuine trailer footage and promotional artwork. That account was published on July 9, 2026 through CXO Insight Middle East, which quoted senior web content analyst Olga Altukhova saying that "highly anticipated game releases have long presented significant opportunities for cybercriminals."
The artwork is the point. It is real, it is free to take, and copying it costs nothing. A page can be pixel-accurate and still be run by someone waiting on a card number. Kaspersky also found the fraudulent pages running in several languages.
How to spot a GTA 6 fake pre order site in ten seconds
The page is theirs to paint. The domain is not, so read it and ignore the artwork entirely.
- Look at the browser address bar, not the page.
- Find the first single slash after https:// and read backwards from it.
- Take the two words immediately left of that slash, joined by a dot. That is the site you are actually on. On a country address like amazon.co.uk it is the last three. Anything further left is a subdomain the owner invented, and it decides nothing.
- Ask whether you could have named that site before you arrived: rockstargames.com, playstation.com, xbox.com, microsoft.com for the Microsoft Store, or a retailer you already shop at. One letter swapped for a lookalike, a hyphen dropped in the middle, a different ending, one extra word: different site, different owner.
- If you cannot place it, do not sit there judging the page. Leave, and reach the shop the way you already know how, by typing its address in yourself or opening the store on the console.
The thing that catches most people is that rockstargames does appear in the address. It is just sitting in a subdomain or a path, where anyone at all can put any word they like.
The tells that survive a good-looking clone
Start with the button. Malwarebytes, writing on August 24, 2026 about sites imitating Rockstar's August 27 Extended Look, found the fakes had added a Play Now button to pages whose real versions promoted a video premiere and offered no download at all. A storefront sells you a thing for later. A trap hands it over now.
Then look at what is being sold. Rockstar has announced two editions and no others, so a page offering a third tier, a VIP level or a founder's pack is offering something Rockstar has never mentioned. Reporting in June 2026 put the Standard Edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate at $99.99, which makes a price well off either figure worth a second look.
Watch what they want you to pay with. Cryptocurrency, gift cards and bank transfer share one property, which is why they are asked for: no chargeback. Infosecurity Magazine reported on June 23, 2026, citing Malwarebytes research, on fake pages selling access for a few hundred dollars in crypto with no route to a refund.
Last, the delivery promise. Pre-load opens November 12, 2026 and the game itself unlocks on the 19th. Nothing legitimate hands you anything before November 12, at any price.
What happens to the details you type into one
These pages steal two different things. The first is whatever goes into the payment form, which in Kaspersky's account asked for a name, an email address, a phone number, a taxpayer identification number and card details. The second is the sign-in. Privacy Guides reported on June 30, 2026 on counterfeit Rockstar Social Club login pages built only to collect credentials, which then get resold.
The second one is worse. A card can be cancelled and reissued. A password you have used elsewhere cannot be called back from wherever it has already been traded.
Why cheat searches feed the same funnel
The invented content and the fraudulent storefronts live on one pool of traffic. Rockstar has published nothing at all about cheats in GTA VI as of September 2026, so every full cheat list circulating for it was written by whoever posted it. That is why our own GTA V cheat reference is labelled as a GTA V reference, and why the label reads GTA V rather than GTA VI. We also cover how fake GTA 6 cheat codes get manufactured.
A reader who has accepted an invented code list has already agreed to trust an unsourced page about an unreleased game, which is the same agreement a counterfeit storefront needs.
What to do if you already paid one
If it was a card, call the issuer, report it as card-not-present fraud and ask for a chargeback. Do it the same day. If it was cryptocurrency or a gift card, the money is gone, and no amount of follow-up brings it back.
If you typed a password, change it, but open a fresh tab and type the real address in yourself rather than clicking anything in an email. Harvested passwords get resold, so change it anywhere else you used it too. Then sign out of every active session on the account and turn on two-factor authentication. Signing out everywhere ends any session a stolen credential has already opened.
Is GTA 6 available to pre-order on Steam or Epic?
No. Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and nothing else, checked September 18, 2026. A PC version has never been announced by Rockstar or Take-Two, so a PC store page offering one is not selling a product that exists.
Can I pre-order GTA 6 cheaper from a key reseller?
The Rockstar Store, PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store take pre-orders directly, and authorised retailers sell the code-in-box edition. There is no legitimate supply of cheap keys for a game that has not shipped, so the discount is the hook.
Does Rockstar take cryptocurrency for pre-orders?
No. The crypto requests tied to GTA VI documented so far come from fraudulent pages, including the VIP access scheme Infosecurity Magazine covered on June 23, 2026. Crypto is asked for because it cannot be reversed.
The site had real trailer footage, so how was it fake?
Trailer footage is public and anyone can embed it. Real artwork proves only that somebody copied it. The domain in the address bar is the one part of a page that is issued rather than copied, which is why it is the only part worth checking.
