How to make money in GTA 6, according to Rockstar
Nobody can prove a money method yet, because GTA VI does not launch until November 19, 2026. What Rockstar has said on record is that robbery sits at the centre of the money loop, and that the list of places you can rob is very long.
So this page is a record of what the developer described, not a tested strategy. Every gameplay detail below comes from an interview Rob Nelson, head of development at Rockstar North, gave to IGN. The demo session was recorded in July and the full interview went up on October 7, 2026. IGN's own site could not be read for this article, so the details were checked against two outlets that reported the interview the same day: Insider Gaming and VICE. Treat all of it as Rockstar told IGN. None of it is a finished feature list, and things shown in a summer demo can change before release.
What can you rob in GTA 6?
Insider Gaming quotes Nelson saying "You can rob pretty much anything." He gave a shop that sells headphones as his first example.
The other targets named in the interview were banks, payday-loan offices and a police impound lot. Nelson said he had planned to hit a shop, a bank or a payday-loan place during the demo. Then the group drove past a police impound lot, Jason pointed it out, and the plan changed.
He also tied the targets straight to money. Insider Gaming quotes him calling them the robbery targets "you can go and use to make money", and saying that loop is very important to the gameplay system.
Can you rob places solo or do you need Lucia?
Either works, per the interview. Insider Gaming quotes Nelson saying you can run a robbery as Jason and Lucia together, or on your own.
The bigger change is when you can do it. Insider Gaming notes that in GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, a big job such as a bank robbery came after a deliberate chain of scripted story events. In the demo Nelson described, a robbery did not wait for a mission. The outlet's own example is running into a payday-loan office, grabbing the cash and getting out.
That GTA V comparison is Insider Gaming's framing of past games. It says nothing about how often GTA VI will hand you jobs, or how much each one pays.
Should you blast the safe or find the combination?
VICE, summarising what IGN was shown, described this as a trade between speed and payout. Blasting a safe open gets you in faster, but it risks damaging what is inside. Taking the time to find the combination can keep more of the loot intact.
Neither source gave a figure for what a safe holds, how long a combination takes to find, or how much a blast destroys. No source gave cash amounts for any target.
How do stolen cars and vehicle fences work?
Cars are the second money thread in the interview. VICE reported three points:
- Vehicle fences can help you find cars to steal.
- Fences can supply intel, including access codes for police impound lots.
- Damage lowers what a stolen car sells for.
The last point changes how a car job plays. A smashed car is worth less, so the fast and messy escape costs you money at the fence. The impound-lot codes also link back to Nelson's demo story. The lot he drove past is the kind of target a fence's intel is meant to open.
Is there a money cheat in GTA 6?
No. Rockstar has published nothing about cheats in GTA VI, and VI Cheats has verified no GTA VI code of any kind. Any page selling a GTA VI cash code is inventing it. If you searched for how to make money in GTA 6 with a code, our money cheat verification page sets out what can and cannot be checked, and the explainer on why no money glitch can exist yet covers the glitch claims.
Money generators and account tools are not a shortcut either. They are scams or worse, and this site does not link to any of them. For the full picture of what is and is not known about cheats, start at the GTA 6 cheats hub.
Can you buy money with real cash in GTA 6?
Not in single player, by Rockstar's account. Push Square reported in August 2026 that Nelson told Kinda Funny the single-player game contains no microtransactions. The ESRB listing still carries an "In-Game Purchases" notice, and our report on what Rockstar said about microtransactions explains that gap.
Online is a separate question. No GTA VI online mode has been announced, and Kinda Funny said Rockstar would not comment on online plans. What is known sits on our GTA 6 online cheats page.
What still has to wait for launch?
Almost everything a money guide normally contains. Payout sizes, the best early targets, how police response scales with the size of a job, and which jobs repeat are all unknown. Those answers need the released game, played on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S after November 19, 2026.
Until then, a fair summary of how to make money in GTA 6 is the one Rockstar gave IGN: robberies alone or as a pair, a choice between blasting a safe and cracking it, and car jobs where damage cuts the fence's price. This page will be updated when the game is out and the methods can be tested.
Is there a GTA 6 money cheat code?
No. Rockstar has announced no cheats for GTA VI, and VI Cheats has verified no GTA VI code. Any code sold or posted as one is unverified.
Can you rob stores in GTA 6?
Rockstar's Rob Nelson told IGN you can rob pretty much anything, naming a headphone shop, banks, payday-loan offices and a police impound lot. That was described from a demo before release.
Does GTA 6 have microtransactions?
Rockstar's Rob Nelson told Kinda Funny the single-player game has none. The ESRB listing still shows an "In-Game Purchases" notice, and no online mode has been announced.
Do stolen cars sell for less if damaged in GTA 6?
Yes, according to VICE's summary of the IGN interview. Damage lowers a stolen car's selling price at a vehicle fence.
