GTA Vice City Stories cheats: the verified core codes

GTA Vice City Stories cheats are button sequences typed in during normal play, without pausing. Below are seven codes that match character by character across GTABase and Grand Theft Wiki, for both the PSP and PS2 versions of Vice City Stories.

Vice City Stories came out on PSP in North America on October 31, 2006, and on PS2 in North America in March 2007, according to Wikipedia. Rockstar Leeds and Rockstar North built it. It is a prequel to the 2002 Vice City, set in 1984, and follows ex-soldier Victor Vance. GTABase counts 36 cheat codes for Vice City Stories in total. Four of those are PSP-only multiplayer content codes, so a PS2 owner has fewer to work with.

This page prints a short, checked set and leaves the rest alone. If you want the full 2002 list, the GTA Vice City cheat codes guide covers that game. The other PSP prequel has its own page: GTA Liberty City Stories cheats.

How do you enter cheats in Vice City Stories?

Press the buttons on the controller while you are walking or driving. GTABase says a confirmation message appears once the code registers, and you can enter cheats at any time during general gameplay without pausing.

GTABase also gives one warning worth taking seriously. Save before you start. Some Vice City Stories cheats cannot be switched off, and the only way back is to load an earlier save. Grand Theft Wiki adds a general caution that cheats can cause side effects and hinder progress.

What changes between the PSP and PS2 versions?

The shoulder buttons. The PSP has a single L and a single R. The PS2 pad has L1 and R1. In the Vice City Stories codes printed here, PSP L becomes L1 on PS2 and PSP R becomes R1. The face buttons and the D-pad stay the same.

Codes that use no shoulder buttons at all are identical on both systems. The three weapon sets and Never Wanted below fall into that group.

The other difference is the multiplayer content codes. Grand Theft Wiki lists four of them, for 25, 50, 75 and 100 percent of multiplayer content, and lists them only under PSP. That matches the GTABase note that four Vice City Stories codes are PSP-only for multiplayer. They are not printed here because they do nothing for a single-player run.

Vice City Stories health, armor and money codes

These three share one pattern: Up, Down, Left, Right, then a face button twice, then the two shoulder buttons. Both GTABase and Grand Theft Wiki list them for Vice City Stories exactly as follows.

Full health (Vice City Stories):

  • PSP: Up, Down, Left, Right, Circle, Circle, L, R
  • PS2: Up, Down, Left, Right, Circle, Circle, L1, R1

Full armor (Vice City Stories):

  • PSP: Up, Down, Left, Right, Square, Square, L, R
  • PS2: Up, Down, Left, Right, Square, Square, L1, R1

250,000 dollars (Vice City Stories):

  • PSP: Up, Down, Left, Right, X, X, L, R
  • PS2: Up, Down, Left, Right, X, X, L1, R1

Our page on the GTA 6 money cheat explains why no equivalent exists for GTA VI yet.

Vice City Stories weapon set codes

The weapon tiers use no shoulder buttons, so the same sequence works on PSP and PS2. GTABase and Grand Theft Wiki agree on all three for Vice City Stories.

  • Weapon set 1: Left, Right, X, Up, Down, Square, Left, Right
  • Weapon set 2: Left, Right, Square, Up, Down, Triangle, Left, Right
  • Weapon set 3: Left, Right, Triangle, Up, Down, Circle, Left, Right

The pattern repeats with one change. The third and sixth buttons move along the face buttons from tier to tier.

Is there a never wanted cheat in Vice City Stories?

Yes. Both sources list it, and it is the same on both systems.

  • Never Wanted (Vice City Stories): Up, Right, Triangle, Triangle, Down, Left, X, X

This is one of the effects that is safest to try on a throwaway save, given the GTABase advice that some Vice City Stories cheats stay on until you reload.

Cars on water, helicopters and skipping missions

Neither GTABase nor Grand Theft Wiki lists a Vice City Stories code that makes cars drive on water, spawns a helicopter, or skips a mission. Grand Theft Wiki's vehicle spawns for this game are the Rhino tank and the Trashmaster, and nothing else. Lists that print a water, helicopter or mission-skip code for Vice City Stories are not backed by either source, so this page does not print one.

People also ask about playing on an emulator such as PPSSPP. VI Cheats does not give instructions for emulators or game files. The codes themselves are just the PSP button sequences listed above.

Do Vice City Stories cheats work in GTA 6?

No. Nothing links these codes to GTA VI. The only connection is the city: GTA VI returns to Vice City in the state of Leonida. Rockstar has published nothing about cheats in GTA VI, and VI Cheats has not verified a single GTA VI code. Our GTA 6 cheats status page tracks what is actually confirmed, and the GTA VI cheat code status report explains how we check. If you see a list of GTA VI codes before launch, read how to spot fake GTA 6 cheat codes first.

VI Cheats is an independent site. It is not affiliated with Rockstar Games, Take-Two Interactive or Sony.

How many GTA Vice City Stories cheats are there?

GTABase counts 36 Vice City Stories cheat codes. Four of them are PSP-only multiplayer content codes. The seven printed on this page work in single-player on both PSP and PS2.

What is the money cheat in GTA Vice City Stories?

On PSP it is Up, Down, Left, Right, X, X, L, R. On PS2 it is Up, Down, Left, Right, X, X, L1, R1. Each entry gives 250,000 dollars in Vice City Stories.

Do you have to pause to enter Vice City Stories cheats?

No. GTABase says Vice City Stories codes go in during normal gameplay without pausing, and a confirmation message appears when one works.

Can you save with cheats on in Vice City Stories?

GTABase advises saving before you use cheats, because some Vice City Stories effects cannot be turned off without loading an earlier save. Keep a clean save and use cheats on a separate slot.
