Does the GTA 6 physical edition come with a disc?

No. The boxed version of Grand Theft Auto VI holds a download code, not a disc. That comes straight from the pre-order press release Take-Two Interactive issued for Rockstar Games on June 24, 2026, which says the physical version, "containing a download code inside the box," will be on sale from November 12, 2026 "to support pre-loading."

Kotaku reported the same wording that day (Ethan Gach, June 24, 2026). We checked the release on Take-Two's investor site on September 29, 2026. No later Rockstar statement we found changes it. The game itself still launches on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only.

What is inside the GTA 6 physical edition box?

Rockstar's release describes one thing inside: a download code. It does not list a map, a manual or any other insert.

The price is the part that is settled. The press release puts the standard game at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99. It also says every pre-order and purchase made before November 20, 2026 includes the Vintage Vice City Pack, an in-game item collection. The release refers only to "the physical version" and does not spell out which edition sits on the shelf. Rockstar has also published no install size, so how much the code will pull down is not known yet.

When do boxed GTA 6 copies go on sale?

November 12, 2026. That is one week before launch, and it is not a random date. The same release says players who pre-order digital versions "will be able to begin pre-loading on November 12, 2026."

So the boxed copy and the digital pre-load open on the same day. Someone who buys the box on November 12 can redeem the code and start the download while digital buyers are doing the same thing. The PlayStation Store listing for the game, checked September 29, 2026, lists a "7-Day Pre-load" with both editions.

Pre-order prices, dates and the pre-load window already have their own page: see GTA 6 pre-order and pre-load dates. This article sticks to the box.

Why is Take-Two selling a code instead of a disc?

The official release gives one reason: pre-loading. It says nothing about cost, piracy or leaks.

Take-Two's chief executive, Strauss Zelnick, spoke about discs on the company's earnings call on August 7, 2026. Kotaku (Zack Zwiezen, August 7, 2026) quoted him saying the business is "well over 90 percent digitally distributed" and that discs "don't really make sense for the consumer." Kotaku also reported him saying Take-Two may still put out physical editions "now and then."

That is the company's view, stated by the company. It is not a promise about any future disc release of GTA VI, and Take-Two has announced none.

Can you resell, lend or trade in a GTA 6 physical edition?

Rockstar and Take-Two have not published a resale, lending or trade-in policy for the box. What follows comes from the console makers' own rules for codes, not from anything specific to this game.

Sony's support page on redeeming PlayStation Store vouchers, checked September 29, 2026, says "Voucher codes can only be used once." The same page says it isn't possible to transfer funds or content between accounts. Put those two lines together and the practical picture is plain. Once the code in the box is redeemed on PlayStation, the game belongs to that account, and the empty box does not carry it anywhere.

On Xbox the code is redeemed to a Microsoft account in the same way. We could not load Microsoft's support pages in a form we could quote, so we are not printing any Xbox-specific rule.

Two things we cannot tell you. We do not know how any given store will treat a sealed, unredeemed box, and we do not know what trade-in value, if any, retailers will offer. Ask the store before you buy if that matters to you.

Can you install GTA 6 without internet?

Not from the box alone. With no disc inside, there is no game data in the package to copy onto the console. The code has to be redeemed with the platform store and the game downloaded, which needs a connection.

What happens after that first install is a separate question. Rockstar has not said whether GTA VI needs a connection to start up. On the August call, Zelnick argued that players "have to register online to play anyhow," according to Kotaku. That is his argument, not a technical spec.

Does any GTA 6 edition include cheats?

No. Neither the boxed copy nor either digital edition lists cheats, and Rockstar has published nothing about cheats in GTA VI. We track what is actually known on our GTA 6 cheats page, and we flag fakes that circulate before launch in fake GTA 6 cheat codes.

Is the GTA 6 physical edition cheaper than digital?

Rockstar's release lists one price for the standard game, $79.99, and does not set a separate price for the boxed version. Individual retailers set their own shelf prices, and we have not checked them.

Can I pre-load GTA 6 if I buy the box?

Yes, from November 12, 2026, once the code is redeemed. The boxed version goes on sale that day specifically to support pre-loading, according to the Take-Two release.

Will GTA 6 ever get a disc release?

Nobody has announced one. Zelnick said Take-Two may still release physical editions now and then, but he did not name GTA VI or give a date.

Is the code region locked?

Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has said, and we have seen no official statement either way. Check the packaging and ask the store before you open it.
