Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed twice. Both GTA 6 delays were announced by Rockstar Games itself, in Newswire posts dated May 2, 2025 and November 6, 2025, and no third delay has been announced since. As of September 17, 2026 the official game page at rockstargames.com/VI still lists the game as coming November 19, 2026.

Every claim below is dated and sourced. The sources are listed at the end.

How many times has GTA 6 been delayed?

Twice. The release target has four dated entries in all, but only two of them moved the game later. Here is the sequence, each with the document that carries it.

  • December 4, 2023. Take-Two's announcement press release names the two consoles and then the window: the game is coming to them "in 2025". No month.
  • May 16, 2024. Take-Two's fourth quarter fiscal 2024 results narrow the window: "Our outlook reflects a narrowing of Rockstar Games' previously established window of Calendar 2025 to Fall of Calendar 2025 for Grand Theft Auto VI."
  • May 2, 2025. Rockstar Newswire: "Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026."
  • November 6, 2025. Rockstar Newswire: "Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026."

Two delays, one publisher narrowing, one original announcement. A footnote on that first line: Rockstar put Trailer 1 out on the night of December 4, 2023, after the trailer leaked. The premiere had been scheduled for the following day, December 5. The Washington Post covered the early release on December 4.

Was the move to Fall 2025 a delay or a narrowing?

A narrowing. The only document that announced it is a Take-Two earnings release, not a Rockstar post, and the word it uses is "narrowing" (read September 17, 2026). Nothing moved later. A window of twelve months became one of roughly three, and the new window sat entirely inside the old one. By the wording of the source, this was not a delay.

What Rockstar said on May 2, 2025

The post is titled "Grand Theft Auto VI is Now Coming May 26, 2026", and reads: "Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026. We are very sorry that this is later than you expected." Further down: "We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve."

Two details are easy to miss. The post never names the window it was leaving, and the words Fall 2025 do not appear in it. Take-Two named that window the same day, in its own investor release: "Grand Theft Auto VI, which was expected to launch in Fall of 2025, is now planned for release on May 26, 2026." Second, this was the first time the game had a calendar day at all. Before May 2, 2025 there was no GTA VI release date to miss, only a season.

What Rockstar said on November 6, 2025

The second post is titled "Grand Theft Auto VI is Now Set to Launch November 19, 2026", and reads: "Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026. We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve."

That moved the game 177 days. The same day, Take-Two's fiscal second quarter 2026 results carried the line for investors: "Rockstar Games will now release Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19, 2026." Again the post does not name the date it replaced: May 26, 2026 appears only in the earlier one, so an accurate timeline needs both.

Has GTA 6 been delayed again in 2026?

No. No delay has been announced at any point in 2026. Checked September 16, 2026: the official game page, the Rockstar Newswire list of GTA VI posts, the Rockstar Support platforms article last updated August 18, 2026 and Take-Two's pre-order release of June 24, 2026 all still carry November 19, 2026. The game page was read again on September 17, 2026 and is unchanged. The most recent Newswire post about the release date is still the one from November 6, 2025. Everything after it is pre-orders and the Extended Look.

Nothing here predicts what happens next. Rockstar has moved the date twice and announced both moves itself. All that can be reported today is that it has not announced a third. Our page on the release date Rockstar currently lists is kept current, and the news piece on the date and the platforms records the listing in full.

Why search results for GTA 6 delays are mostly rumour

A real delay leaves a paper trail. Rockstar publishes a Newswire post whose title names the new date, and Take-Two repeats that date in an investor document the same day. Both delays did both: Take-Two's investor release of May 2, 2025, and its fiscal second quarter 2026 results of November 6, 2025. That is why both are still checkable today.

The 2027 story that circulated through 2026 has neither. No Newswire post. No filing. No change on the game page. Nobody outside Rockstar knows the schedule, so nothing rules a future delay out. The 2027 claim is not evidence of one: GTA BOOM, on June 11, 2026, updated August 26, 2026, traced the most widely shared version to a single X account with about 1,300 followers and no demonstrated insider access.

Does a delay change anything about GTA 6 cheats?

No, because there is nothing there to change. Rockstar has published nothing about cheats in Grand Theft Auto VI. No code, no entry method, no statement that the game will have cheats and none that it will not. Checked September 16, 2026 against the game page, the Newswire GTA VI post list and the four-article GTA VI support base.

That is why our cheat reference page lists Grand Theft Auto V codes and badges each one as a GTA V reference, unverified for GTA VI, and why the piece on how cheat status is labelled sets out the labels. A site that pairs a delay story with a list of confirmed GTA VI codes has sourced neither one.

Common questions about GTA 6 delays

Was GTA 6 delayed twice or three times?

Twice by Rockstar, on May 2, 2025 and November 6, 2025. The third date change people count, on May 16, 2024, was Take-Two narrowing the 2025 window to Fall 2025, and the release target did not move later.

Has GTA 6 been delayed to 2027?

No. No Rockstar or Take-Two source says so. As of September 17, 2026 the date on the official game page is November 19, 2026. The last release-date post on the Rockstar Newswire, checked September 16, 2026, is still the one dated November 6, 2025.

Why was GTA 6 delayed?

Rockstar gave the same general reason both times: more time to finish the game. In May 2025 it wrote that "we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve". In November 2025: "these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve". No more specific cause has been published.

When did GTA 6 first get an actual release date?

May 2, 2025. The December 2023 announcement said 2025 with no month, and Take-Two narrowed it to Fall 2025 in May 2024. The first calendar day, May 26, 2026, stood about six months before the November 6, 2025 post replaced it.
